GERIATRIC CARE

PACKAGE

Life comes in an entire circular loop, from young parents raising a child to the child caring for elderly parents. And, as tricky as it is to raise a child properly, keeping our ageing parents involved, active, healthy, and happy is just as challenging. The formerly bustling and energetic parents fade into a lonely shell as the years pass. Their activities and recreational pursuits change dramatically. While some people experience mental breakdowns, others are hampered by physical limitations. Such abrupt changes in their lives frequently cause the old age phenomenon after retirement.

Chronic disorders like heart disease, stroke, cancer, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, and arthritis are common, costly, and preventable health concerns they encounter. Other problems include mental health, cognitive decline, falls, and the health of sense organs and joints.

AYURVEDIC GERIATRICS: A RAY OF HOPE –

Recently, more light has been thrown on Ayurveda's power to revolutionise the senior Health care sector through its unique concepts and scientific strategies. And it is the need of the hour to explore its vast possibilities thoroughly.

Jara, or ageing, is a natural phenomenon as inevitable as the seasons, hunger, or thirst, according to Ayurveda. The only distinction is that it's a degenerative state. Regarding the Doshas (energy principles), Kapha reigns supreme during childhood, Pitta plays the supreme role during adolescence, and Vata reigns after age 50 or 60. The misuse of senses, poor nutrition, and lifestyle choices hasten the onset of diseases. Ayurveda promotes natural, holistic, and healthy ageing and the prevention and management of chronic diseases during old age.

Healthy Aging Principles in Ayurveda:

  1. Balance Vata: Dryness, degeneration, coldness, joint issues, poor bone density, digestion and sleep disturbances are all symptoms of an unbalanced Vata. These are more prevalent in the fall and early winter.
Here are eight easy ways to reduce your vata and rebalance your body:
    • Consume foods that are inherently sweet, salty, and sour. Avoid junk food, salt, and sweets that have been processed.
    • Maintain a consistent routine and avoid engaging in too many diverse, frantic activities. Bedtime, waking time, dinner, and exercise should be consistent daily.
    • Slow and steady is the best way to practise yoga postures. The following yoga poses, as well as pranayama, will assist.

    -Vajrasana (Adamantine Pose).
    -Marjariasana (Cat Stretch).
    -Sun Salutation
    -Vrksasana (Tree Pose).
    -Purn Pavanmukt Asana(wind relieving pose).
-Savasana is a restorative yoga posture (corpse pose).
    -Ujjayi's Pranayama (Victory Breath).

    • Keep yourself warm, peaceful, and relaxed. Hot baths, warm oil massages, steam and heat treatments, and relaxing music are all helpful.
    • Eat warm and oily foods in moderation and avoid frozen, cooling, and dried foods.
    • For mental stability and tranquillity, meditate regularly.
    • The Ayurvedic herbs ashwagandha and Shatavari, as well as turmeric, will assist in balancing vata.
  2. Enhancing Ojas- Ojas is the body's vigour and vitality, responsible for our immune and mental stress tolerance. Various Ayurvedic formulations are prescribed for the same.
  3. Implementing Anti-aging methods, herbs, and Rasayana, or rejuvenation. Rasayana is a branch of Ayurveda that deals with specific formulations that help slow the aging process. Rasayana emphasises rejuvenation and revival of the body, promoting slow ageing. This involves various therapies and ayurvedic treatment for knee pain and other joint issues, herbs, daily rituals, and dietary practices focused on improving longevity, promoting vitality and boosting overall metabolism. Rasayana treatments are tailored to strengthen immunity, enhance mental clarity, and slow ageing. These practices are customised to individual needs and target achieving harmony in body, mind, and spirit.
